The key to optimizing for Inktomi is spreading your keywords very
sparingly throughout your pages. Just remember that your visitors
are not coming to your site to read a bunch of keywords. Try to
mix keywords into a page with great content so that you satisfy
them and Inktomi.
VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Meta tags are extremely important
in Inktomi. Meta tags are given a decent amount of weight in Inktomi
and they use them in there ranking algorithm to rank sites. The
keyword and description tags are weighed very heavily. The optimal
number of Meta Keywords should be between 7 and 48 words. Don't
forget to use commas to separate keywords with
no spaces.
Remember to keep your keyword density between 1-3 keywords. Don't
have 3 keywords in a total of 5 total words. Use good judgment.
The optimal description tag is between 12 and 24 words including
your keywords. If you've been paying very little attention to
your Meta tags then you'll definitely want to reconsider.
VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Inktomi also pays very close attention
to your pages title tag. Make sure that you keep the title short,
sweet, and full of your keywords.
